Following our dreams can be one of the most difficult things we’ll ever pursue in life. The ups and downs, the uncertainties, and the everyday struggles that come with it can be frustrating to say the least. But did you know that it’s when you are closest to your breakthrough that things get hard? Yes, it’s true. Imagine all of the times when you were on the brink of giving up and then out of nowhere, boom, things started to look up. The same goes for our dreams. It takes time, effort, and a whole lot of perseverance to keep pushing, but in the end its worth it. Now, while this is all true, we totally get the fact that some days are going to be more draining than others, so we’ve put together a list of things to do when you're feeling like throwing the towel in.
Take a walk/jog/run, whatever suits you. We’re more the walking type! Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes away from the desk and some fresh air to bring things back into perspective. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Log off of social media. This is a big one. With social media at our fingertips, its super easy to get in the mindset of comparison. We are constantly being shown the highlight reel of our peers’ lives and we often start to question our own success but as the saying goes; their success does not equal your failure.
Take a personal day. Not just a day off of your 9-5, but a day off of your personal business too. When we overwork ourselves we tend to burn out and THIS is where the “is this really worth it” thoughts come in. Learn to pace yourself. Would it be nice to check off everything on your to-do list daily? Sure! but realistically, the chances of that happening every time are slim to none. Take a day, pamper yourself, no work involved, just lots of self care.
Know that you are not on anyones time other than God’s and your own. You are allowed to take breaks. You are allowed to move at a slower pace. You are allowed to do whatever you need to do to keep yourself grounded.
Lastly, don’t give up hope. God created each of us with a purpose in mind. If he gave you the vision, rest assured he’s given you the ability and resources to make them happen.
