Fear will come. How will you handle it?

Fear is the one thing that holds many of us back from living the life that we’ve dreamed of. It’s a cycle of “what-if” scenarios that often exaggerates the truth. How many times have you prepared yourself for the “worst case scenario,” only to have the outcome be nowhere near what you thought it would be?

What we have to understand about fear, is that it comes to disrupt peace. It’s nearly impossible for the two to coexist in the same space. Although it’s easier said than done, you must form a habit of dismissing negative thoughts as soon as they surface. When we dismiss them early on, we don’t give them the chance to grow. The one thing we’ve learned about fear ,is that it’s like a cancer; if you don’t learn to control it, it’ll begin to affect multiple areas of your life.

When you allow this to happen, it’s almost like physically digging yourself into a hole; one that requires hard work to get out of. Living with fear is essentially betting against yourself. You begin to believe that your circumstances are bigger than you, which couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is, your fears and insecurities are only as big as you allow them to be.

The one for sure way to combat fear is with faith. Faith says, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I trust that it’ll work out for my good. I trust that God has my best interest at heart and that he’s working on my behalf (because he is…).

Fear or faith; which one do you choose?

In addition to prayer and faith we’ve listed a few tips below to help overcome fear.

  1. Travel

  • Traveling doesn’t always have to be somewhere far away or expensive. Sometimes it can be as simple as a weekend getaway with the people closest to you even just a night out on the town to unwind. As crazy as it may sound, you have to MAKE TIME to have fun. Don’t be so busy with making a living, that you forget to actually live.

2. Practice having positive thoughts

  • Sounds crazy to have to “practice” your thoughts right? We’ve all heard the old cliche saying “your mind only believes what you tell it.” So, if you’re constantly telling your mind “Today is going to be a good day,” or “My dreams are coming to fruition,” eventually you’ll start to believe it. Before you know it, your mind will be so consumed with positive thoughts and not only will you have changed your way of thinking, but you’ll also have changed your life. Start speaking things into existence!

3. Journaling

  • Writing down your thoughts is a simple way to release all of your frustrations so that you no longer have to “carry” them. Sometimes the things we experience in life can’t be shared with anyone other than in our prayers but holding them in sometimes causes more damage than it does good. Get a journal, write down your thoughts and leave them there. It’ll feel good to be able to release those thoughts and not feel so bottled up with emotions.

4. Yoga / Exercise

  • Exercising and yoga can not only strengthen the body physically, but also the mind. If you can dedicate just 15-20 minutes a day to exercising, you’ll notice a huge difference.

5. Reading

  • When’s the last time that you’ve picked up a good book? Or read a good blog (other than this one of course!)? We get it, sometimes we barely have time for ourselves and our families, let alone finding time to read! The good thing is, reading doesn’t always have to be in a book. It can be a blog such as this, that offers advice for certain areas of your life or even a magazine that highlights all of your favorite hobbies. Whatever it is that you like to read, find it and do it often. We’ll cut you some slack today since you’ve just read through this :)

Hopefully, you’ll find our tips valuable and start implementing them into your daily routine. In the end, it’s not about whether fear resurfaces or not, it’s about how prepared you are to handle it when it does. It all starts with you.
